Violence in Manipur claims two more lives, protest in Kuki areas
Guhawati: Two individuals were killed in a fresh outbreak of violence in Manipur state, India.
The deceased have been identified as Kamminlal Lupheng (23) and Kamlengsat Lunkim (22), both residents of Kangpokpi in Imphal East district.
A senior police officer confirmed that there was gunfire in the area and indicated that two individuals have died. The incident occurred in an area under the jurisdiction of the Maphoudam police station in Imphal East district, near the border of Imphal East, Kangpokpi, and the Naga-majority district of Ukhrul.
Following the incident, the Committee of Tribal Unity, a Kuki-Zomi group based in Kangpokpi district, observed a 24-hour shutdown in the district, today.
These killings occurred less than a week before polling is scheduled to take place for the Inner and Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seats, notably in many of the violence and conflict-affected areas of the state.
