Srinagar: Indian police have arrested hundreds of youth besides summoning scores including Hurriyet activists, Ulemas and journalists to police stations in different areas of occupied Jammu and Kashmir on the eve of Indian parliamentary elections in the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the BJP-led Indian regime with the support of its armed forces and dreaded agencies during house raids and cordon and search operations continued to arrest and harass people in the name of security ahead of the so-called elections in IIOJK. Indian parliamentary elections in occupied Jammu and Kashmir are being held in five phases from April 19 to May 20.
The journalists, rights activists, and civilians are being summoned and arrested for merely expressing their opinions on social media. As per reports, the Kashmiri people are being compelled to support Hindutva BJP and its proxies in Lok Sabha elections in the territory.
The BJP regime has employed a range of intimidating tactics to ensure no reporting critical of its actions comes out of IIOJK. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other accounts of ordinary citizens and journalists are being persistently censored to make sure there is no voice contrary to New Delhi’s claims regarding the current situation in the occupied territory. Even Kashmiris’ cell phones are being taped & every individual’s activities are being monitored by Indian agencies. IIOJK’s mainstream media is not allowed to report facts on the ground and legitimate political voices of people are being silenced under the guise of “national security.”
Several activists said that when they visited the police stations they were subjected to severe questioning there, adding, “It is not for the first time that police have been harassing the people especially youth for their political activism”.
The political analysts said censorship has reached a new high in IIOJK after Modi regime revoked the territory’s special status in Aug 2019. They said that the new censorship regime in IIOJK is meant to bring Kashmiris to their knees, muzzle their freedom voice & make them acquiesce to Indian policies, adding this strict censorship is a clear proof that Jammu and Kashmir is under military and police rule. They added that India must remember it can’t obfuscate what is happening in occupied Jammu and Kashmir by imposing iron-fist rule in the territory.
