Students rewarded 50% for writing ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in UP university exam

New Delhi: In an interesting development in the BJP-ruled Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, students were awarded 50% marks for writing only “Jai Shri Ram” and the names of cricket stars in an examination.

According to Kashmir Media Service, this grading was given to DPharma (Diploma in Pharmacy) students at UP’s state-run Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal (VBSP) University in Jaunpur.

The revelation surfaced following a Right to Information (RTI) request, prompting a subsequent probe and re-examination. Consequently, the four students were revised to receive zero marks. The probe panel recommended the dismissal of two teachers responsible for initially awarding the 50% marks. However, this action awaits approval from Governor Anandiben Patel, who serves as the chancellor of the university, as per a senior varsity official.

The incident was brought to light by Divyanshu Singh, a former student of the university, who filed the RTI plea questioning the marks awarded to the four students. Subsequently, Singh lodged a complaint with the governor, leading to further investigation.
