Delhi High Court denies parole to Kashmiri even after spending 20 years in jail
New Delhi: In yet another case of Indian judiciary’s biased and tyrannical approach when it comes to the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Delhi High Court has denied parole to a Kashmiri, who has been in jail for more than 20 years.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Feroz Ahmed Bhat was arrested in 2003 and sentenced to life imprisonment for being involved in the Kashmiris’ just struggle to grant them their inalienable right to self-determination.
Justifying the denial, the Delhi High Court resorted to vague reasoning, saying there is an apprehension that his presence in the area would be detrimental to the larger security interest.
Bhat had sought parole to visit his parents and get married.
His counsel submitted that Bhat, presently about 44 years of age, has been in judicial custody for more than 20 years and wishes to get married. Since his aged parents are looking for a bride for him, the lawyer prayed that he be released on parole. However, the plea was rejected.
