‘Mistaken for Muslim’: Journalist assaulted by BJP members at Amit Shah’s rally in UP

Bareilly: The members of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assaulted a journalist covering a rally of Indian Home Minister Amit Shah in Rae, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, during the Lok Sabha elections as they mistook him as Muslim due to his beard and Kurta Pyjama.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the incident occurred when Raghav Trivedi, a journalist from Molitics, a YouTube news channel, was covering the rally and interviewed some women attendees, media reported.

Mistaken for a Muslim due to his appearance, Trivedi was approached by BJP members who demanded he turn off his camera. When he refused, he was physically assaulted.

Despite the presence of police and other journalists, no one intervened. Trivedi mentioned feeling targeted because of his beard and attire, Congress said as they uploaded the video of him getting examined by doctors at hospital.

The Congress Party condemned the incident, stating that BJP supporters attacked the journalist for recording women admitting they were paid to attend the rally.
