Muslim activist’s arrest triggers protest in Ahmadabad, India
Ahmadabad: The arrest of Muslim community activist Altaf Khan, known for leading a cleaning campaign at the Chartora graveyard in Ahmadabad, Gujarat, India, has sparked widespread protests and calls for his release.
According to Kashmir Media Service, local residents, especially women from Khan’s neighborhood, have taken to the streets with banners demanding justice and highlighting his significant contributions to the community.
Altaf Khan’s niece, Rumana Pathan, emphasized the deplorable state of the graveyard before her uncle initiated the cleanup effort. She described the drastic improvements brought about by Khan’s campaign, despite facing multiple attacks and subsequent legal troubles.
Other women in the community echoed Pathan’s sentiments, emphasizing Khan’s dedication to improving the graveyard for the benefit of all. They highlighted broader issues faced by the Chartora graveyard, including illegal occupation and neglect, drawing attention to the need for better management and protection of community spaces.
The protests continue as the community unifies in their demand for justice for Altaf Khan.
