Man found beheaded in Manipur, houses set on fire
Imphal: A beheaded body of a person was found in a border district in disturbed Manipur state, sparking tension in the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, 59-year-old man, Soibam Saratkumar Singh, was found beheaded by unknown assailiants in the border district of Jiribam.
The incident occurred when Saratkumar was returning from his son’s farm located at Leishabithol. The beheaded body of Saratkumar’s was found near Mulargoan, about 12 kilometers north of Jiribam police station.
Later, an angry mob set fire to abandoned houses belonging to the Kuki community in the nearby area.
The motive behind the killing and the identity of the assailants remains unknown. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
This incident is the latest in a series of ethnic clashes between the Hindu Meitei community and Christian dominated Kuki-Zo community in Manipur, which have resulted in over 220 deaths and displaced more than 50,000 people since May 2023. The violence has its roots in historical and political tensions between the two communities.
