Two more Indians fall victim to poverty, killed in Ukraine war
Moscow: Poverty and lack of opportunities in India are driving citizens to seek employment in dangerous conditions abroad, resulting in tragic consequences as two more Indian nationals recruited by the Russian Army have been killed in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) while confirming the latest deaths has urged Indian citizens to exercise caution when seeking employment opportunities in Russia, as dozens have been lured by agents promising lucrative jobs, only to be sent to fight on the frontlines in Ukraine.
This alarming trend highlights the desperation of Indian citizens amidst poverty and lack of job opportunities.
The Indian government’s warning that such jobs are “fraught with danger and risk to life” rings hollow, as the country’s economic conditions continue to push citizens towards dangerous alternatives. The demand to stop recruiting Indian nationals by Russia and Israel has fallen on deaf ears, as the lure of lucrative jobs remains a strong pull.
The deaths of the two Indian nationals bring attention to the issue of poverty driving Indians to seek employment in dangerous conditions abroad. Several Indians have, so far, lost their lives fighting in Israel’s war against Gaza. The Indian government’s inaction in addressing poverty and lack of opportunities has led to a human trafficking network involved in sending young Indians abroad, as revealed by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe.”

The incident highlights the need for greater economic opportunities and support for Indian citizens, so they are not forced to seek dangerous and illegal ways to make a living. Until then, the cycle of poverty and desperation will continue to claim lives.
