Srinagar: Though Muslims around the world are celebrating Eid-ul-Adha yet the festivity is missing in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir due to the Modi regime’s anti-Muslim policies and continued military siege in Srinagar and other areas of the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Hindutva regime led by BJP/RSS disallowed people to offer Eid-ul-Adha prayers at historical Jamia Masjid and Eidgah in Srinagar.
The authorities locked the main gate of the Jamia Masjid and deployed huge Indian troops, paramilitary and police personnel on roads in Nowhatta and several areas of the city to thwart pro-freedom protests.
Social media is also being monitored by the Indian authorities, and anyone highlighting the ground situation of IIOJK is arrested under black laws, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Public Safety Act (PSA).
It is worth mentioning here that for the sixth consecutive year, the Jamia Masjid in Srinagar remained silent, devoid of the prayers that traditionally mark this auspicious day. The Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar, which manages the mosque, said that administrative directives prevented devotees to hold prayers at the scheduled time. A member of the management committee said,. “Despite our pleas and petitions, they refused to allow prayers, leading to the cancellation of prayers at the historic mosque as well as Eidgah.”
The APHC leadership in a statement issued in Srinagar expressed grave concern over the prevention of Eid prayers at the grand mosque and Eidgah in Srinagar on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. The leadership described India’s move as extremely painful and a blatant interference in the religious matters of the Kashmiri Muslims. The leadership emphasized the importance of ensuring religious freedom and the right to practice one’s faith without restrictions. The leadership urged the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, to help resolve the long-standing Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Meanwhile, Indian forces’ personnel have intensified so-called security measures in Srinagar and other areas of the occupied Kashmir Valley ahead of Indian PM Modi’s visit on June 21. Indian troops, who have been deployed in large numbers, have also intensified searches and frisking, particularly in Srinagar city. Motor cycles of common people are also being seized in the city.
