Guru Hargobind birth anniversary celebrated with religious fervour
Srinagar: The birth anniversary of Guru Hargobind ji, the sixth Guru of the Sikh community, was celebrated with religious fervour across Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, religious places of the Sikh community were full of devotees as people thronged Gurduwaras across the valley.
The main function was held at Chatti Padshahi Gurudwara, where besides prayers, prominent Sikh clerics delivered sermons on the auspicious occasion. The religious leaders from the community extended their greetings on the occasion.
“This is an important occasion for the whole of Kashmir as we celebrate the birth anniversary of our 6th Guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib, on this day. The whole community across the valley assembled at Chatti Padshahi Gurudwara and participated in all the religious functions. Our Guru travelled across the world and spread his teaching and he also came to Kashmir which makes the event even more important. Today we are preaching the same teaching of love, brotherhood, and peace. We pray for the prosperity of Kashmir,” one of the Sikh religious leaders at the Gurudwara said.
The celebrations were also held in other city Gurudwaras located at Amira Kadal, Jawahar Nagar, Allochi Bagh, Barzulla, Rangreth, while celebrations were held across north and south Kashmir Gurudwaras including Pulwama, Baramulla, Jammu and Ladakh.
Devotees paid obeisance in various Gurdwaras throughout the day and offered special prayers.
“This is an important occasion for our community, and we are glad that everyone was able to participate and pray for peace and prosperity in Kashmir. Our Kashmiri brothers from other religions also greeted us and visited us on the occasion. We are very proud of our unity and brotherhood, which make our festivals even more special,” said Pardeep Singh, a devotee.
Meanwhile, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak committee has organised a gurmat samagam at Akal Takht sahib in Amritsar.
Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh congratulated the Sangat on the birth anniversary of the sixth Patshah Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji and shared his views on the life history of Guru Sahib.
Giani Raghbir Singh said that Guru Sahib encouraged the Sikh community to fight against oppression by giving the principle of Miri Piri.
He said that earlier Jarwanes used to come up and beat and loot people and leave, but no one had the courage to resist. For the first time, Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji protested Babur’s oppression by calling him an oppressor. The sixth Patshah ji implemented the principle of Miri Piri in the light of the principles given by Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji to take the Sikhs to progress and ordered them to be armed.
Jathedar Akal Takht Sahib encouraged the Sikh community to unite for the advancement of Sikhism by guarding this important principle of Sikhism.
SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami also congratulated the Sikh world on the birth anniversary of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib.
He said that Akal Takht Sahib, created by Guru Sahib, is a symbol of the free existence of Sikhs and the divine flame. It is the duty of every Sikh to guard the principles bestowed by Guru Sahib while being devoted to it
On this occasion, prominent personalities, including Chief Granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib and Jathedar Singh Sahib of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh and President of Shiromani Committee Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, were present.
On the occasion of Prakash Gurpurab, after the recitation of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, the present Ragi Jatha of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib performed Gurbani Kirtan.
