Modi has imposed ‘undeclared emergency’ in India: Congress chief
New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, accusing him of enforcing an “undeclared emergency” in India over the past decade.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Kharge’s remarks came in response to PM Modi’s comments on the 1975 Emergency, where he stated that those who imposed emergency have no right to profess love for the Constitution.
Kharge said that the PM’s actions speak louder than his words, citing the misuse of investigative agencies against opposition leaders, toppling of elected governments, and passing of significant laws without proper consensus. He claimed that these actions constitute an “undeclared emergency” and demonstrate a disregard for the Constitution and federalism.
The Congress chief’s retort follows PM Modi’s social media post, where he criticized the party that imposed the Emergency, saying their mindset is still alive and that they have consistently violated the Constitution. The exchange marks a fresh round of political sparring between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress, with the 1975 Emergency anniversary serving as a backdrop.
