Indian BSF troops fatally shoot 65-year-old Bangladeshi
Lalmonirhat: Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel fatally shot a Bangladeshi national in the territory of Bangladesh.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the victim, identified as Nurul Islam (65), was a resident of Lalmonirhat district. The incident occurred late at night when a group of Bangladeshis with cattle were near the Lohakuchi border in Lalmonirhat district. The Indian BSF troops, patrolling the West Chamta camp on the Indian side, opened fire on the group, resulting in the death of Nurul Islam on the spot.
Lt Col Mofazzal Hossain Akond, commanding officer of Lalmonirhat-15 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), confirmed the incident and stated that a protest would be lodged at a flag meeting over the incident.
According to Ain O Salish Kendra, a human rights organization, 11 Bangladeshis were shot to death by Indian BSF personnel, and nine others were injured between January and May of this year. The rights body reported that at least 28 Bangladeshis were shot to death and 31 were injured by the Indian BSF personnel in 2023.
