Protests erupt in Jammu over IIOJK authorities’ failure to address basic needs

Jammu: Protests erupted at various locations in Jammu district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) as residents expressed dissatisfaction and frustration with the authorities’ failure to address their basic needs.

According to Kashmir Media Service, people in several parts of Jammu staged protests against the erratic power and water supply.

In Ward No. 19, residents organized a protest demonstration against the power and water departments for their inability to ensure uninterrupted power and adequate water supply amid the prevailing hot and humid weather. A large number of protesters, including women, participated and raised slogans against the concerned departments. The residents criticized both departments for failing to provide regular power and water supply in their locality.

Meanwhile, residents of New Plot in Jammu, frustrated by both scheduled and unscheduled power cuts, also staged a protest against the power department. Many people took part in the protest, voicing their anger and raising slogans against the department, citing acute power shortages.

In Durga Nagar, Sector One, Sector Two, and other adjoining areas of Ward No. 64, residents held a massive protest against the severe water crisis. They condemned the water department’s neglect, holding it responsible for the ongoing water scarcity that has plagued them for a long time.

Hundreds of people from Gangyal, Ekta Vihar, Bawaliana, and Ward No. 56 blocked the Jammu-Pathankot Highway, raising slogans against the power department. The highway blockade resulted in long queues of vehicles.

Similarly, irritated residents of Kalibari area blocked the Jammu-Kathua Highway at Kalibari, registering a strong protest against the shortages of power supply and drinking water. A large number of residents, including women, disrupted traffic movement on the busy highway while raising slogans against the concerned departments.
