‘Modi govt forced passage of three new criminal laws by suspending 146 members of Parliament’
Chandigarh: India’s opposition Congress General Secretary and Member of Parliament Kumari Selja has expressed concern over the implementation of three new criminal black laws by the Modi government today.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Kumari Selja in a statement said that these laws were forced to pass by suspending 146 members of Parliament.
He said that the Modi government suspended 146 members of parliament and passed the three criminal laws bills, so they should be presented in the parliament for discussion again. He declared the amendments in the Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code and Indian Evidence Act as illegal and demanded to be tabled in the Lok Sabha for debate and approval.
He alleged that the new criminal laws would lay the groundwork for transforming India from a welfare state to a police state. He said any decision should be taken only after these laws are discussed again in the Parliament.
Kumari Selja said this is a big challenge for the law enforcement agencies, judicial authorities and legal experts as there is a fear of affecting a large number of citizens by these laws. There has been haste in the approval and implementation of these laws by the Parliament which is not appropriate in any way in a democracy, he lamented.
He said these black laws were neither discussed in any committee of the Parliament nor discussed in the House and no consultation has been done with the relevant stakeholders
