Mehbooba Mufti condemns arrest of Advocate Nazir Ronga in Srinagar

Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has condemned the arrest of High Court Bar Association President Nazir Ahmed Ronga in Srinagar, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Mehbooba Mufti, in a social media statement, criticized the ongoing cycle of violence in IIOJK, stating that the Indian government has not only failed to restore normalcy but is also venting its frustration by launching a vicious crackdown on helpless Kashmiris. She emphasized that Nazir Ronga is the latest victim of the BJP government’s oppressive actions.

Indian police arrested Nazir Ahmed Ronga during a house raid in the Nishat area of Srinagar and booked him under the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) the other day. Ronga is the second president of the lawyers’ body to be arrested recently. Prominent lawyer and former president of the Bar Association, Mian Abdul Qayoom, was also arrested last month from his residence in Srinagar on false charges by the New Delhi-installed IIOJK regime.

Mehbooba Mufti’s statement highlights the increasing repression faced by Kashmiris and the misuse of laws to target those who advocate for justice and human rights.
