Social Media campaign demands release of jailed Umar Khalid, other Muslim activists
New Delhi: Social media users launched a campaign demanding the release of student leader Umar Khalid and other Muslim activists who have been jailed for 1400 days on fake charges.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the campaign, with hashtags #UmarKhalid1400DaysInJail and #ReleasePoliticalPrisoners, seeks the release of Khalid and others who were leading protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Prominent figures, including Bollywood actors, journalists, and a Rajya Sabha MP, joined the campaign, calling the incarceration a “travesty of justice” and a “punishment for speaking up against the Modi government’s controversial laws.
