Muslim girl students denied namaz space in Kerala College
Thiruvananthapuram: The college authorities have denied Muslim girl student to offer prayers in a separate space in Kerala state.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the college denied the request of girl students for a space to offer prayers at Nirmala College in Muvattupuzha in the Ernakulam district of the state.
The controversy has sparked a broader debate about religious practices in educational institutions
The female Muslim students asked the college authorities to allot a room for them to offer prayers. Their request was denied, leading to heightened tensions on the campus. Some students reportedly gheraoed the college principal, Father Kannadan Francis, in protest.
Father Francis said that the college cannot permit a room for prayers when there is already a mosque several meters away for boys.
