Protest rally of homeless people affected by violent riots

Imphal: Displaced people, affected by the violent riots in the troubled Indian state of Manipur, took out a protest rally in the capital city of Imphal and demanded the return and restoration of their homes from the relief camps.

The Kashmir Media Service has reported that more than two hundred people have been killed and thousands have been displaced in the ongoing violence between the Kuki and Meiti tribes in the state since May last year.

A large number of displaced people are living in relief camps and have protested and took out a rally against the government’s failure to rehabilitate them in Imphal. The protesters were carrying placards demanding resettlement, removal of Assam Rifles from Manipur and implementation of NRC. The rally was taken out from the relief camp located in Akmapat area of Imphal.

When the participants of the rally tried to move towards the Chief Minister’s residence, the police stopped the protestors outside the Accompt Model Girls College.

The police used brutal force including tear gas and baton charge to disperse the protestors. Due to which many protesters including journalists were injured. The situation in Imphal city is tense after police brutality on protesters.
