CASOs, house raids intensify in IIOJK ahead of India’s Independence Day
Srinagar: Indian forces have ramped up their cordon and search operations (CASOs) and house raids across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) ahead of India’ Independence Day, the 15th of August, subjecting the local population to increased harassment and distress.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian forces’ personnel are conducting extensive house raids, CASOs, and frequent frisking throughout Srinagar and other areas of the territory. During these operations, Indian troops and police have detained dozens of youths and summoned hundreds more to police stations and army camps.
The establishment of numerous checkpoints on major roads has resulted in rigorous vehicle searches and intrusive frisking of commuters.
While these measures are officially framed as enhanced so-called security protocols for Independence Day, they have, in practice, exacerbated the hardships endured by Kashmiris. Many residents have noted that this period consistently brings additional suffering and disruptions to their lives. The increased so-called security measures, they say, only serve to deepen their sense of alienation and distress.
The oppressive security environment imposed in the run-up to India’s Independence Day highlights the enduring difficulties faced by the people of IIOJK, who continue to endure severe restrictions and hardships amid their ongoing struggle to secure their inalienable right to self-determination.
