Maharashtra schoolboy’s suicide adds to alarming trend in India
Mumbai: A 13-year-old Class 8 student in Maharashtra’s Kalyan area committed suicide, leaving behind a note that accused his art teacher and classmates of harassment.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the boy was found hanging at his home, and a suicide note was recovered at the scene, police said. In the note, the deceased blamed mental pressure and harassment from his teacher and classmates for his decision.
He was a student at Kalyan East Ideal School, although he did not mention the school’s name in his note.
The tragic incident is part of a disturbing trend of student suicides in India, which has seen a steady rise in recent years. According to official statistics, India records one of the highest rates of student suicides globally, with mental health experts attributing the alarming trend to increasing academic pressure, bullying, and harassment.
