New Delhi: Prominent civil society activists have raised concerns about the growing tide of Hindu fascism in India since Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed power in 2014.
According to Kashmir Media Service, activists like Arundhati Roy, Harsh Mander, and Teesta Setalvad are on record to protest India’s transformation into a “criminal Hindu fascist enterprise” under Modi’s leadership, with Muslims in India and occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) bearing the brunt.
The activists claim that Modi’s government is systematically silencing dissent, marginalizing religious minorities through discriminatory policies, and intensifying human rights abuses in IIOJK. They point to Modi’s membership in the extremist Hindu organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which they say follows Nazi ideology, as a driving force behind his fascist policies.
The activists criticize the Modi regime for pushing through anti-Muslim laws that discriminate against Muslims, posing a threat to humanity and regional peace and stability.
International figures like Noam Chomsky, Angela Davis, and Cornel West have also criticized India’s departure from democratic traditions.
The civil society activists urge international rights bodies to intervene and protect Indian minorities and Kashmiri Muslims from Hindu fascism
