Srinagar: Civil society activists in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have sounded the alarm over the deep conspiracies of the Modi-led Indian regime to alter the territory’s demography, posing a severe threat to its Muslim majority status.
According to Kashmir Media Service, since August 5, 2019, when Article 370 was revoked, lakhs of non-locals have received domicile certificates in IIOJK, strengthening the impression that India aims to shift the Muslim majority to a minority. Activists claim that this is part of a covert plan to strip Kashmiris of their identity and advance settler colonialism in the territory.
“The Modi regime’s actions to change IIOJK’s demographics constitute a war crime,” said a prominent civil society activist. “India’s efforts to alter Kashmir’s demographic landscape flagrantly violate UN resolutions and the Geneva Convention.”
Activists argue that the revocation of Article 370 was a key motive behind the demographic engineering in IIOJK. By granting domiciles to non-Kashmiris, India aims to modify the demographic balance of the region, which would have far-reaching consequences for the political and cultural identity of Kashmiris.
Kashmiris would resist Modi’s schemes to modify IIOJK’s demographic balance, activists say, and urged the international community to recognize India’s dangerous plans in the South Asian region. The UN must intervene to prevent Modi from executing his demographic alteration agenda in IIOJK, they demanded.
