PDP, NC call for revocation of ban on IIOJK Jamaat-e-Islami
Mufti says people voted for ‘plebiscite sentiment’ in north Kashmir
Srinagar: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti has demanded the revocation of the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, saying the organization has contributed significantly to education and social welfare in the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the PDP chief said, “If communal organizations spreading venom and hatred are not being banned, then why should Jamaat, which has done commendable work in education and social welfare, be banned?”
The PDP chief also reiterated party’s commitment to raise voice for resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
Mufti criticized the abrogation of Article 370, saying it had further complicated the Kashmir issue. She claimed that the people of north Kashmir had voted for a “plebiscite sentiment” in the Lok Sabha polls by electing incarcerated leader Sheikh Abdul Rashid.
The PDP chief also accused the BJP of breaking the bridge between occupied Jammu and Kashmir and India by abrogating Article 370.
Meanwhile, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah in a statement also advocated for the revocation of the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami.
