BJP in disarray in IIOJK, candidate list withdrawn hours after release
Srinagar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was forced to withdraw its initial list of candidates for the so-called occupied Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections due to internal discontent, protests from party workers, and an unfavorable public mood.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the original list of 44 candidates was released and then quickly withdrawn within hours, replaced by a revised list of 16 nominees for the first phase of polls.
The move followed widespread discontent among party cadre, with a group of workers protesting at the BJP headquarters in Jammu. They alleged that “parachute candidates” were preferred over dedicated workers.
The revised list features former ministers and key political figures who recently joined the BJP. However, the party’s image has suffered due to internal rumblings and protests, highlighting the challenges it faces in the upcoming elections.
