Eight bodies retrieved from rubble of collapsed building in India
Lucknow: Rescue teams in Lucknow, India, have retrieved eight bodies from the wreckage of a three-storey commercial building that collapsed the other day.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the building, which was used by multiple small companies, including a warehouse and a vehicle workshop, gave way suddenly, trapping many inside.
28 people were injured in the collapse, and it is unclear if there are still others trapped under the rubble. The cause of the collapse is not yet known, but building and construction accidents are common during India’s monsoon season, which runs from June to September.
Akash Singh, who worked in the building, reported that a pillar had developed a crack, and he had moved to the ground floor fearing it would worsen. “Suddenly, the entire building collapsed on us,” Singh said.
Uttar Pradesh state chief minister Yogi Adityanath called the deaths “heart breaking” in a statement and offered his condolences to the grieving families of the dead.
