Mirwaiz raises voice over Indian manipulation of IIOJK polls

Srinagar: Senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has termed the elections in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) as “meaningless” due to Modi government’s manipulation.

The Kashmir Media Service has reported that, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in an interview has cited the August 2019 illegal actions by Modi regime, including the revocation of IIOJK’s special status by abrogation of Article 370 of Indian Constitution, widespread arrests, and amendments to the Reorganization Act, which rendered the elected legislature powerless.

He said that all these actions were aimed at engineering a long-term demographic change in the Muslim-majority territory.

Mirwaiz pointed out that the situation on the ground is tense, with people self-censoring due to fear of repercussions and noted that silence doesn’t mean agreement, as there’s a strong latent resistance.

The APHC leader added that civic elections cannot resolve the UN-designated disputes likes Kashmir.
