Islamabad: Renowned journalist Iftikhar Gilani’s book launch sparks crucial dialogue on India’s sociopolitical landscape and Muslims’ plight.
According to Kashmir Media Service, experts urge comprehensive understanding of India’s internal dynamics to enhance Pakistan’s advocacy for Kashmiris’ rights. Gilani’s book, “Ikkeeswi Sadi ka Bharat aur Musalman,” provides an in-depth exploration of India’s evolving dynamics with its Muslim minority.
The book launch, organized by the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), Islamabad, featured esteemed panelists, including Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, Khalid Rahman, and Ambassador (r) Syed Abrar Hussain. They emphasized the significance of “Hindustan Shanasi” – understanding India’s sociopolitical landscape – for effective policymaking and advocacy.
Prof Khurshid Ahmad highlighted the socio-political setbacks for Muslims and the decline of secular values in India. Raja Zafar-ul-Haq stressed the growing influence of Hindutva and systemic marginalization of minorities. Ambassador Abdul Basit praised the book’s thorough analysis of policy impacts over three decades.
The discussion underscored the importance of compiling meaningful records of challenges faced by Muslims in India and Kashmir. Documentation is vital for strengthening advocacy and promoting Pakistan’s role in championing Kashmir’s cause. The event concluded with a call for a coherent narrative on Kashmir and Muslims, based on well-documented history, ideology, and struggles.
This dialogue is crucial, especially on Kashmir’s Black Day (October 27), marking India’s 1947 occupation. Pakistan reaffirms solidarity with Kashmiris, demanding self-determination and freedom. Gilani’s book serves as a valuable resource in understanding India’s complexities, informing policymaking, and advocating for Kashmiris’ rights internationally.
