Karra rejects retention of powers by Delhi, demands full statehood for IIOJK
Jammu: Congress President for Indian Illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir Tariq Hameed Karra has firmly declared that the incomplete restoration of statehood is unacceptable to the people of the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking at an event organized by the Congress in Rajouri, Karra demanded the immediate and complete restoration of statehood, rejecting any measures that allow New Delhi to retain control over key powers.
“We demand the full restoration of statehood, not an amended or partial version,” Karra stated. He criticized the Modi regime for its unwillingness to restore statehood in its original form, accusing it of planning to retain control over vital departments integral to governance.
“They aim to keep critical departments under their direct control through amendments, which we will not accept. Such a diluted form of statehood is meaningless and unacceptable to the Congress,” he emphasized.
Karra warned against any attempts to erode the region’s autonomy further and reiterated Congress’s unwavering commitment to pushing for full statehood restoration.
Referring to the abrogation of Article 370, Karra reaffirmed Congress’s stance: “The Congress passed a resolution on August 6, 2019, taking a clear stand on the matter, and we remain steadfast in that position.”
He accused certain influential individuals within the Indian government of advocating for an incomplete version of statehood and stressed the urgent need to restore the region’s original powers to meet the aspirations of its people.
Karra’s statements underscore the growing demand for complete statehood in IIOJK amid concerns over the central government’s attempts to retain significant control over the territory.
