Farmers protest against Islamabad-Pahalgam railway line over land loss fears

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, farmers have voiced strong opposition to the Modi-led Indian regime’s proposal to construct a railway line between Islamabad and Pahalgam.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the proposed route threatens to pass through fertile agricultural land, jeopardizing the livelihoods of local farmers and risking the territory’s agrarian economy.

The proposed 77.5-km railway line, which would pass through Bijbehara and Pahalgam, has sparked protests among local farmers, who argue it threatens the territory’s most fertile agricultural land.

“Hundreds of acres of farmland will be destroyed, and thousands of families who depend on this land for their livelihood will be impacted,” said Ghulam Nabi, a local farmer. “This project will create food shortages and economic hardship.”

Concerns extend beyond land loss to environmental degradation, with experts warning about the impact on forested areas and ecosystems.

The railway line aims to enhance connectivity for the annual Amarnath Yatra, but farmers and experts argue that the costs to agriculture, the environment, and local communities outweigh the benefits.
