Over 59,000 WhatsApp accounts blocked for digital fraud in India
New Delhi: At least 59,000 WhatsApp accounts involved in digital fraud have been blocked in India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs’ Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) informed the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament, in a written response that over 59,000 WhatsApp accounts and 17,00 Skype IDs had been identified as being used for digital fraud.
Indian media reported that by November 15, more than 600,000 SIM cards and 100,000 IMEI numbers were also blocked by the government. The Ministry further stated that the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System, launched in 2021, is designed to detect financial fraud and prevent the actions of fraudsters.
