Sikh body supports protest against politically motivated Reservation Policy
Srinagar: The All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) has voiced its support for the ongoing protest led by National Conference MP Aga Syed Ruhullah against the current reservation policy in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the APSCC has called for prioritizing the open merit category in employment and other opportunities, stressing the need to uphold meritocracy over politically influenced reservations.
In a statement, APSCC Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina emphasized that the open merit category, being the largest, should be given greater consideration, as was the norm in the past. He criticized the reservation policy as politically motivated and disconnected from the realities on the ground, stating that it has caused unrest among youth in the open merit category.
Raina demanded the abolition of these reservations and called for a judicial probe into what he described as systemic injustice against the majority community by a small privileged group. He argued that such policies deprive the majority of their rightful share in jobs and opportunities.
Addressing the challenges faced by the Sikh community, Raina decried the decades-long exclusion of Sikhs from job reservations and other benefits. He pointed out that Sikhs were also excluded from the non-migrant category benefits, a decision he termed as unjust and discriminatory. KMS-6K
