Jan 5 resolution recognizes Kashmiris’ right to decide their own future: Safi
Muzaffarabad: The Convener of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter, Ghulam Muhammad Safi on Saturday said that the United Nations had passed a resolution on January 5, 1949, which recognized the Kashmiris’ right to decide their own political future through a free and impartial plebiscite under the supervision of an international organization.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Ghulam Muhammad Safi, addressing the Bar Association in Muzaffarabad, said in this regard, a grand “Right to Self-Determination Rally is being organized at Shaheed Burhan Muzaffar Wani Chowk in Muzaffarabad tomorrow under the auspices of All Parties Hurriyat Conference.
He appealed to the lawyers to participate in this rally with all their friends and give a clear message to India that the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir are not alone, but every person of Azad Jammu and Kashmir stands behind this movement.
He said whenever the colonial powers occupy an area, they humiliate the respected people there, violate the honour of women, kill children and destroy their crops and this is what India is doing in occupied Jammu and Kashmir. India has martyred lakhs of our people, disablled and imprisoned thousands, he added.
Hurriyat leaders Raja Khadim Hussain and Zahid Ashraf were also with Ghulam Muhammad Safi.
Meanwhile, a high-level delegation of APHC-AJK visited the Anbor refugee camp in Muzaffarabad and reviewed the preparations for the Right to Self-Determination Day. The Hurriyat delegation was led by APHC-AJK General Secretary Advocate Pervez Ahmed while Muhammad Ashraf Dar, Abdul Hameed Lone, Abdul Majeed Mir, Nazir Karnai and Sheikh Abdul Majeed were also part of the delegation.
The representatives of the refugees assured their full support for the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people and their full participation in the programmes of the forum.
They reiterated their resolve that on January 5, the struggle and sacrifices of the Kashmiri people would be highlighted before the whole world so that the need for a solution to the Kashmir issue could be emphasized in accordance with the UN resolutions.
Hurriyat leaders on the occasion said that January 5 was the historic day when the UN recognized the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people. They said that even after many decades, the Kashmiri people are making sacrifices to achieve their right.
