Four Naxalites, policeman killed in encounter in Chhattisgarh
Dantewada: Four Naxalites and a policeman were killed in a fierce encounter between Indian forces and Naxalites in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, officials said on Sunday.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the gunfight erupted on Saturday evening in the dense forest of south Abujhmaad, located along the border of Narayanpur and Dantewada districts, during a joint anti-Naxalite operation by Indian forces, including the District Reserve Guard (DRG).
Bodies of four Naxalites were recovered from the site after the exchange of fire ended late Saturday night. Forces also claimed to have seized automatic weapons, including an AK-47 rifle and a self-loading rifle (SLR).
The encounter claimed the life of DRG head constable Sannu Karam, who was fatally injured during the operation.
A search operation is ongoing in the area to trace any remaining Naxalites, officials said.
