Kashmiris striving for Self-Determination under Indian oppression: Speakers

Lahore: A ceremony was organized by the Kashmir Center Lahore in connection with the Right to Self-Determination Day, where the speakers emphasized that Kashmiris are struggling for their birthright under the shadow of Indian guns.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the speakers stated that on January 5, 1949, the United Nations Commission for Pakistan and India passed a resolution granting Kashmiris the fundamental right of self-determination, which was accepted by both Pakistan and India. However, due to India’s stubbornness, the promises made to the Kashmiris have not been fulfilled. The speakers added that the United Nations Security Council has repeatedly reaffirmed the commitment to grant Kashmiris the right to self-determination in its resolutions.

They emphasized that the only durable and just solution to the Kashmir issue is through a plebiscite in accordance with the United Nations resolutions. The speakers also pointed out that India has disregarded these resolutions, creating obstacles in resolving the Kashmir dispute while simultaneously fueling state terrorism in the occupied territory.

The speakers declared that the right to self-determination is the fundamental and birthright of Kashmiris, for which hundreds of thousands of people have already sacrificed their lives.

Speakers at the event included Syed Naseeb Ullah Gardezi, Vice President of the PMLN AJK chapter; Hurriyat leader Engineer Mushtaq Mehmood; PPP leader Ghulam Abbas Mir; Inam-ul-Hassan; PTI leader Mirza Sadiq Jarral; Farooq Azad; President of Jamiat Ittehad-ul-Ulama Lahore Ihsan Ullah Tabassum; Shehzad Nazki; Allama Fida-ur-Rehman; Abdul Majeed Butt; Qazi Anwar; Naveed Malik; Maqbool Awan; and others.
