Muslim youth killed in police custody in Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow: A Muslim youth was killed in police custody in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh state of India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the body of the victim, identified as Irfan, was recovered at the Rai Satti police post in Sambhal district. Irfan had been detained on Sunday night under unspecified charges.
The victim’s family claims that Irfan was tortured in custody, causing his condition to worsen, leading to his death. Following the news of his death, locals held widespread protests against the authorities.
Indian media reported that the police left Irfan’s body unattended inside the police post and left the area.
The wife of the deceased stated that the police did not provide any reason for taking Irfan into custody. She said the policemen had picked him up from their home while threatening him.
