Chillai Kalan ends, dry spell persists in IIOJK
Srinagar: The 40-day harsh winter period of Chillai Kalan ended on a dry note in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with the territory experiencing prolonged cold but little precipitation.
According to Kashmir Media Service, while Sonamarg received fresh snowfall and isolated areas saw light rain on Wednesday evening, most of the Valley remained dry, exacerbating concerns over water shortages.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a weak Western Disturbance may bring light rain and snow to parts of Kashmir today, with a stronger weather system expected from February 3 to 5.
The ongoing dry conditions have led to rising daytime temperatures while sub-zero temperatures persist at night. The lack of snowfall has alarmed farmers and orchardists, as winter snow is crucial for replenishing water bodies and ensuring irrigation in the summer.
