Kashmiri women harassed by non-locals in viral video, sparking widespread anger

Srinagar: A disturbing viral video has sparked widespread outrage on social media, showing non-locals in Srinagar, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, brazenly filming and ogling Kashmiri women despite their visible discomfort and anger.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the clip, which includes footage of women captured from inside a car, has drawn sharp criticism from social media users, many of whom are demanding strict action against the perpetrators. The video, which violates the privacy and dignity of local women, has raised serious concerns about the safety and respect for women in public spaces.
Social media users have condemned the act as an infringement on personal privacy and an assault on local culture. One user shared the video on X, writing, “Kashmir is not your safari, and its people are not exhibits for your amusement. If you can’t act like a decent human being, you don’t deserve to set foot here. Authorities must crack down on this disgraceful behavior with strict consequences. Locals have every right to call out and resist this violation. Kashmir is a homeland, not a spectacle, and its people deserve respect, not to be treated like exhibits for your voyeuristic pleasure.”
Another user criticized local authorities for their inaction, stating, “I guess we need to call it off as a society!! Authorities seem to be acting as spectators whether it comes to public intoxication or fantasizing about Kashmiri women. Civil society needs to take proactive steps to stop this disgust.”
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about the safety and dignity of women in the territory and has spurred calls for immediate intervention by authorities to prevent such violations in the future.
