Political analysts call for an end to India’s occupation, demand UN plebiscite

Srinagar: Political analysts and experts have reiterated that the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir unequivocally demand an end to India’s illegal occupation and the right to self-determination, a promise enshrined in United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 47 (1948).
According to Kashmir Media Service, political analysts and experts, speaking anonymously to the media in Srinagar, stated that India’s unilateral actions of August 2019 violate international law and UN mandates, further deepening the region’s crisis.
The experts argue that over seven decades of broken pledges have left Kashmiris waiting for the UN’s long-overdue plebiscite, as promised in its resolutions. They stress that the Kashmir dispute is a critical test of the UN’s commitment to its founding principles of justice and equality, warning that continued global silence undermines the credibility of the UN Charter and its resolutions.
Highlighting India’s militarized suppression in Kashmir, analysts emphasize that its policies violate the Geneva Conventions and international human rights law. They state that a UN-supervised referendum remains the only path to lasting peace in South Asia, cautioning that the UN’s inaction emboldens India’s occupation and fuels regional instability.
“The world cannot preach self-determination while ignoring Kashmir’s cry for freedom,” experts warn, urging the international community to hold India accountable and implement the UN-mandated plebiscite without further delay. KMS-6K
