Pakistan's Support to Kashmir

IIOJK internationally recognized dispute; Pakistan rejects Indian false claims at UN

United Nations: Pakistan has rejected India’s claim that Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) is an integral part of India, asserting that the territory is an internationally recognized dispute that cannot be altered by baseless and ambiguous claims.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Asif Khan, a diplomat in the Pakistani mission, addressing the UN Security Council, stated that IIOJK has never been a part of India, nor is it now. He was responding to remarks made by Indian Ambassador P. Harish, who had claimed that Kashmir is an inseparable part of India. The Indian Ambassador made this statement in response to the recent address of Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar at the UN Security Council, where he demanded a solution to the decades-old Kashmir dispute, calling it a wound that threatens international peace and security.

In his speech, Ishaq Dar also highlighted the serious human rights violations being committed by Indian occupying forces in occupied Kashmir and called on the Security Council to ensure the implementation of its relevant resolutions.

Asif Khan emphasized that IIOJK is an internationally recognized disputed territory and advised the Indian representative to refer to the official UN maps to acknowledge this reality. He further stated that India’s occupation of IIOJK violates the UN Security Council resolutions, which confirm that the final decision on the Kashmir dispute will be made by the Kashmiri people through a plebiscite under the supervision of the United Nations.

Asif Khan pointed out that India has been depriving the Kashmiri people of their inalienable right to self-determination for over seven decades, violating international law. He noted that India has stationed over 900,000 troops in IIOJK, subjecting Kashmiris to brutal oppression and occupation.

He further made it clear that since August 5, 2019, India has been attempting to change the Muslim-majority demographic of the occupied territory. However, he said, India has failed to suppress the Kashmiri struggle for freedom and self-determination with military force and brutal tactics.

The Pakistani representative also stated that no unilateral action, including fake elections under foreign occupation, can resolve the Kashmir dispute. He urged the international community to stop misleading itself and called on India to fulfill its international obligations, allowing Kashmiris to exercise their right to self-determination in accordance with the Security Council’s resolutions.
