Pervez Shah calls for global attention to HR violations in IIOJK
Geneva: Advocate Pervez Shah, General Secretary of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter, has called on the international community to pay attention to the human rights violations occurring in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
According to Kashmir Media Service, Advocate Pervez while addressing the 58th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, stated that the people of IIOJK have the right to be heard, to receive empathy, and to have their wounds healed. He emphasized that wherever human rights violations occur, they must be acknowledged as such. Shah further mentioned that the Kashmiri people deserve the opportunity to express their difficulties and suffering.
He pointed out that the people of Kashmir have placed their hopes in the international community and stressed that the world should not let them down. Pervez Shah commended the efforts of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in highlighting human rights issues worldwide. He specifically appreciated the High Commissioner’s statement expressing concern over the restrictions placed on human rights activists and independent journalists in IIOJK, as well as the harassment they face.
Shah concluded by saying that the High Commissioner’s statement, amid human rights violations in various nations, serves as a ray of hope. He also lamented that human rights have been sidelined, even though they should form the foundation of liberal democracies.
