BJP regime books Dr Abdul Bari Naik under black law in IIOJK
Srinagar: Indian police have detained Dr. Abdul Bari Naik, a prominent academic and social activist from Kulgam, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, under the draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA) — a law frequently criticized by rights groups for enabling prolonged detention without trial.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the family members said, Dr. Naik was summoned to a police station in Srinagar on Monday, where he voluntarily appeared. He was later booked under PSA, and his family was informed of the action.
Dr. Naik, who previously served as an assistant professor of Geography at Government Degree College, Udhampur, has faced legal troubles before. He was arrested by Cyber Police over alleged social media content and released on bail. In 2021, he was booked under the black law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
In April 2021, Dr. Naik and two other government employees were dismissed from service without formal inquiry by the BJP administration under then Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, appointed by the BJP-led New Delhi government.
On the other hand, Muslim League leader Assadullah Parray was re-arrested by Indian police in Hajin area of Bandipora after recent release from Jail. Inmates said that police forcibly entered their home and detained him again, just a month after his release from two years in illegal detention.
