Srinagar traders protest against opening of liquor shop , call it assault on Kashmiri culture

Srinagar: The business community of Batmaloo in Srinagar, Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, has announced a three-day shutdown in protest against the proposed opening of a liquor shop in the area, terming it a direct attack on the religious and cultural values of the Kashmiri people.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a public notice issued on Friday, the traders urged the authorities to immediately intervene and revoke the decision, warning that the move is unacceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. They said that promoting alcohol in a Muslim-majority territory not only goes against Islamic teachings but also undermines Kashmir’s long-held social and moral fabric.
“This is a deliberate attempt to destroy our society and future generations, especially at a time when we are already battling the serious crisis of drug addiction,” said a representative of the business community. They questioned why such decisions are being imposed on Kashmir when Indian states like Gujarat, from where the BJP hails, remain dry.
