Analysts, locals reject Amit Shah’s claims as Op Sindoor distraction

Srinagar: Local residents and political analysts have rejected Indian Home Minister Amit Shah’s assertion that three youths killed in a military operation in Srinagar’s Dachigam area were involved in Pahalgam attack, saying that the victims were innocent and killed in a staged encounter.

According to Kashmir Media Service , the locals dismissed Shah’s attempt to tie the martyred youths to the Pahalgam assault as baseless. They maintained that the encounter was staged to wage propaganda against Kashmiris and Pakistan after humiliating defeat in the wake of Operation Sindoor.

Political observers in Srinagar noted that the BJP-led government is resorting to such tactics to deflect mounting criticism, particularly after senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram challenged the official narrative. Analysts suggested the timing—just during the Parliament’s monsoon session, where the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor are being discussed—indicates a deliberate attempt to manipulate public perception.

Earlier, Chidambaram, a former Home Minister, questioned the Modi government’s unsubstantiated claim that the Pahalgam assailants were Pakistani nationals. Highlighting the lack of evidence, he demanded transparency, asking why no attackers had been identified or arrested. He further noted that neither neighboring countries nor international forums like the SCO and BRICS had implicated Pakistan—raising doubts about India’s accusations.
