DG ISPR warns of deep strikes in eastern India in case of aggression

Islamabad: In a significant policy pronouncement, Pakistan’s Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has warned that any future Indian aggression would be met with a direct and forceful response targeting India’s eastern regions, including key military, economic, and strategic installations.

According to Kashmir Media Service, in an interview with The Economist, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said, “This time, we will begin from the east of India. The response will start with a deep strike inside India.” The statement marks a notable shift in Pakistan’s deterrence posture, effectively erasing India’s long-held assumptions of geographical immunity beyond the western front.

Observers note that Pakistan’s missile capabilities—especially the Shaheen-III and Ababeel systems—have matured into a Full Spectrum Deterrence strategy, allowing precise targeting of critical Indian infrastructure across 2,500 km range. This includes vital airbases like Kalaikunda, Panagarh, Chabua, and Tezpur; naval installations in Visakhapatnam; and industrial hubs in Kolkata, Jamshedpur, and Bhubaneswar.

Analysts point out that even India’s high-value strategic assets such as the ISRO launch site at Sriharikota, DRDO facilities in Bengaluru, and Chandipur missile testing range in Odisha are now vulnerable to Pakistani missile engagements, thereby reshaping South Asia’s deterrence equation.

The ISPR chief’s remarks serve as a clear warning that any misadventure by New Delhi will no longer be confined to conventional fronts. Pakistan, he implied, is fully prepared to escalate the theatre of response, turning India’s economic and strategic depth into liabilities in the event of conflict.
