Muzaffarabad: A seminar “Day of Shame— India’s Independence Day in Shadow of Destruction of Kashmiri Homes” was organized in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the seminar was organized under the auspices of the Institute of Dialogue, Development and Diplomatic Studies (IDDDS) at a local hotel in Muzaffarabad. Students from various universities and colleges as well as representatives of civil society attended the seminar.

The speakers said India is by no means a democratic country and is an aggressor state that has occupied Jammu and Kashmir against the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

They said all the fundamental rights of Kashmiris have been taken away and over one million Indian forces’ personnel, deployed in the occupied territory, have made their lives more miserable through acts of oppression and tyranny.

The speakers said the terrible face of Indian democracy has been exposed in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. They added that due to the criminal silence of the international community, India was getting the opportunity to continue its oppression in the occupied territory.

They said the Modi government has locked up thousands of Kashmiris, including Hurriyat leaders, civil society and human rights activists, in jails and detention centres.

The speakers said the occupying administration in the occupied territory recently banned twenty-five books by Kashmiri, Indian and international writers, which is highly condemnable.

He said the Kashmir dispute is the main cause of tension between Pakistan and India and until this conflict is resolved, relations between the two countries cannot improve.
