Dalit youth kidnapped, forced to bow down to upper caste men in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: The upper caste Hindus kidnapped and forced a Dalit youth to prostrate before them in Tamil Nadu state.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the upper caste Hindus abducted and humiliated a Scheduled Caste teenager by forcing him to prostrate before them in Usilampatti, Madura city of the state.

The 17-year-old victim, a resident of Sankampatti village, was reportedly taken by members of the dominant caste when he returned home during the Pongal holidays. According to his complaint, he was beaten and forced to bow down before each member of the group, including a six-year-old child.

“They released him only after learning that the police had been alerted,” said advocate Deviammal, a relative of the boy. She further alleged that the attackers urinated on the teenager before allowing him go.

The Neelam Cultural Centre criticised the police for delaying the case and accused them of protecting the accused.

The boy, currently receiving treatment at Usilampatti government hospital, is said to be deeply traumatised. Deviammal also disputed the police’s claim about his age, stating, “He is 17, not 19. The officials are trying to weaken the case.”

Police in Usilampatti, Madurai, have booked six upper caste Hindus for abducting and humiliating a Scheduled Caste teenager.
