BJP eyes two Rajya Sabha seats after LG’s 5 nominations in IIOJK Assembly

Srinagar: The political equations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir are set for a shift after the Modi regime empowered Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to nominate five members to the Legislative Assembly without consulting an elected cabinet.
According to Kashmir Media Service, these members would enjoy full voting rights, potentially boosting the BJP’s strength in the assembly and enabling it to secure two of the territory’s four vacant Rajya Sabha seats.
Senior Congress leader Ravinder Kumar Sharma warned that such nominations could distort the balance of power by artificially converting a minority into a majority. The matter has become critical as IIOJK has had no Rajya Sabha representation since 2021, while the NC-Congress alliance is otherwise poised to win three of the four seats.
