Observers question Modi’s victory claim in ‘Operation Sindoor’ amid Pakistan’s rising stature

Islamabad: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claim that India “brought Pakistan to its knees” through Operation Sindoor has drawn sharp skepticism from observers, who argue that recent international developments demonstrate a very different reality—one where Pakistan’s stature has risen while India’s influence has declined.

According to political analysts, Modi’s triumphalist assertions are aimed at domestic audiences in poll-bound states but fail to align with the shifting balance on the global stage. They point out that far from being “isolated,” Pakistan’s international engagements have expanded significantly in recent weeks.

Highlighting developments, observers noted that Pakistan’s military leadership, including Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, was invited to a high-profile lunch hosted by US President Donald Trump—an indication of Washington’s recognition of Pakistan’s strategic relevance. Soon after, Pakistan’s troops were accorded a prominent role in China’s grand military parade in Beijing, underscoring the deepening of Sino-Pak defense ties. Most recently, Islamabad finalized a major defense cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia, a development widely seen as a reaffirmation of Pakistan’s pivotal role in the Muslim world.

“These are not the signs of a country ‘brought to its knees’ but rather of a state strengthening its global standing,” an observer remarked, adding that India’s belligerent claims stand in sharp contrast to its growing diplomatic isolation in its neighborhood and beyond.

They further stressed that Modi’s rhetoric around Operation Sindoor, amplified through the narrative of a “weeping Pakistani terrorist,” serves more as a political tool than a reflection of ground realities. “The attempt is to project invincibility before voters, but the international scene tells another story—one in which Pakistan is engaging confidently while India appears defensive and increasingly insecure,” they said.

Analysts concluded that Modi’s statements were less about military achievements and more about electoral optics, seeking to transform military posturing into political capital.
