IIOJK court quashes PSA detention of Srinagar man

Srinagar: In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the High Court has quashed the illegal detention of a Srinagar resident, booked under the draconian Public Safety Act (PSA) in 2019.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a bench of the court while disposing of a petition ordered the release of Fayaz Ahmad Zargar, a resident of Jamia Masjid area of Srinagar, from illegal custody. The court directed the authorities, including the Jail Superintendent, to ensure his immediate release unless he is required in any other case.

Legal experts and rights defenders maintain that the PSA, repeatedly used by the Indian authorities against innocent Kashmiris, has become a notorious tool to silence political dissent and prolong arbitrary detentions in the occupied territory.
