LAB rejects magisterial probe into Sept 24 incident, seeks judicial inquiry

Leh: The Leh Apex Body (LAB) in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has rejected the magisterial inquiry into the September 24 protests that claimed four lives during police action.

According to Kashmir Media Service, LAB co-chairman Chering Dorjey talking to the media reiterated the demand for a high-level judicial inquiry, insisting that only such a probe can establish accountability for the deaths of civilians in Leh.

He said, “We have maintained from day one that there should be a judicial probe into the killings of Ladakhi people. We want to know who ordered the firing on civilians without any warning. We don’t accept the magisterial inquiry and we reject it.”

The LAB leader further said that no dialogue with the Indian government would be possible unless its core demands are met. “Talks with the Indian government are not possible until a judicial inquiry is ordered and all the detainees, including Sonam Wangchuk, are released. The government must come clean and be answerable to the people of Ladakh,” he added.

The Ladakh administration had earlier appointed Sub Divisional Magistrate Nubra Mukul Beniwal as inquiry officer to ascertain the facts of the September 24 incident.
